Scholarships

This year the Society of Refugee Healthcare Providers, through support from Switchboard, will offer 50 scholarships to US service providers working with ORR-eligible populations to attend NARHC. Scholarships are for the registration fee only. Travel, lodging, and food are not covered. It is not a cash award. If awarded, the Society will provide the awardee with instructions for registering for the conference and waive the fee.

Eligibility Criteria

Priority for scholarships will be given to service providers who:

• Identify as having personal or family experience of displacement and resettlement
• Are working in health-related services (for example, intensive case management, refugee health promotion)
• Have confirmation from their supervisor that if the registration scholarship is awarded, the organization can commit to covering travel to the conference, lodging and other associated costs

Scholarship Process

• Participants will complete scholarship application available Application process should take approximately 20 minutes to complete.
• Scholarships will be available on a first come, first served basis; they will be awarded in the order of those that apply and based on if applicants meet the eligibility criteria.
• SRHP will maintain a waitlist, so if an applicant’s plans has changed and they can’t attend, then the award will be given to those on the waitlist.
• SRHP will conditionally grant scholarships. To officially receive the scholarship and be registered for NARHC, recipients must submit proof of travel by June 1^st.

Were you previously resettled as a refugee in Canada or the US and are currently working, studying or training in the health field (in any capacity)? Thanks to donations from generous conference attendees, we’re able to offer free registration to NARHC for a limited number of applicants.

How many scholarships are awarded is entirely dependent upon how much money is donated. Scholarships are awarded on a first come/first served basis. They are awarded in the order of those that apply. The Society does not wait to make the award. Once the appropriate amount for a scholarship is collected the next applicant is notified of the award. Since many conference attendees don’t register until a short time before the conference, awards could potentially be given right up until the start of the conference. If an applicant’s plans has changed and they can’t attend, then the award will be given to the next applicant on the list.
