About Dr. Fatima Karaki

Dr. Karaki is chair of the nonprofit organization Refugee Research Equity and Collaboration in Health (Refugee REACH), whose mission is to improve refugee health globally through research and evidence-based clinical care. She previously served as the founding director of the Refugee and Asylum seeker Health Initiative (RAHI), an organization that fostered research, education, advocacy, and community awareness in refugee health at UCSF. She is chair of the international Society of Refugee Healthcare Providers and founding co-chair of the Society’s Research, Evaluation & Ethics Committee.

With almost twenty years of experience in refugee health, Dr. Karaki’s focus is advancing refugee health research in order to improve the quality of refugee healthcare. She has provided emergency medical relief to patients in refugee camps and slums throughout Europe, the Middle East and India.  After completing her training at the University of Michigan and Washington University in St. Louis, she served as an associate professor of clinical medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Karaki currently practices as an academic inpatient medicine attending at Olive View- UCLA Medical Center, where she teaches medical students and residents.
