Our Committees

Learn More About Our Committees

Society members are eligible to apply for terms on our committees – which are special interest groups dedicated to a subfield within refugee and immigrant health. These committees require substantial commitment on the part of their members and produce guidance, publications and more.

Our Committees

Advocacy

Society members not only serve individuals, but also want to make the system better. Our Advocacy committee hosts regular meetings on timely issues. Any Society member can attend meetings. Email hello@refugeesociety.org if you want to join the Advocacy Committee’s leadership team.

Conference Planning

Pulling off the North American Refugee Health Conference (NARHC), which is usually hosted over 3 days for 750+ attendees, is a huge undertaking. Our planning committee members are a big help as we create the agenda, select speakers, and determine conference logistics.

Health TTA Coordination Working Group

We host the Health TTA Coordination working group in partnership with the National Resource Center for Refugees, Immigrants & Migrants (NRC-RIM) and the International Rescue Committee (IRC). Federal and state partners, resettlement, community-based and others join this monthly call to sync Afghan health training and technical assistance efforts nationally.

Research, Evaluation, & Ethics

Society members launched their first committee – with a mission of fostering refugee health research among Society members and acting as a source of research expertise and support for the broader refugee health community. Selected committee members include professionals representing an array of specialties, including a cohort of refugee health experts who also identify as previously resettled refugees. Learn more about the committee here.

Sexual and Reproductive Health

If you are passionate about sexual and reproductive health and rights for refugee and migrant communities, join us. Visit the SRH Committee page to learn more.
